BROADBAND UPDATE
A press release has been issued from Nottinghamshire County Council but I realise that not everyone may have the chance to read it, hence the reason I am putting out this message.
The County Council is bidding for a slice of the £530m funding from the Government to roll out a broadband service to areas which have limited to no broadband service in Nottinghamshire.
If the bid proves successful the money will be spent on preparatory works required to connect rural and poorly connected areas to a broadband service to encourage network operators and internet providers to invest in broadband service improvements.
Rushcliffe Borough Council is one of the three Districts in Nottinghamshire proposed for the first phase of works as it is one of the most rural and poorly connected areas.
This could be a once in a generation opportunity to improve electronic linkages in order to minimise the disadvantages currently experienced by individuals and businesses.
Your support in "spreading the word" and encouraging our communities and businesses to complete a questionnaire via the Nottinghamshire County Council website by July 8th, 2011 would be very much appreciated.
Owing to the fact that the timescale is short I would be grateful if each recipient of this message forwards it to their friends and act upon it yourself as well.
The County Council do require as many completed questionnaires as possible. Officers will collate the answers and they will be included in their presentation for funding.
The website is http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/broadband.
Street Lighting Energy Saving Proposals
Details of the proposed changes to operating times of street lighting in Costock can be found at http://www3.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/streetlightingchanges/
A map showing the proposed changes for Costock can be found by looking at the diagram for Costock in the Ruddington electoral district. In brief the lights shown as blue squares on the map will be switched off from midnight until 6:30 a.m. These lights seem to be all lights not on the A60.
Lights shown by green squares will be dimmed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. These are the lights on the A60 through the main section of the village.
Other lights through outlying parts of Costock along the A60 are indicated by black square and will be unchanged.
The consultation period closed on 16th December. Any comments on the proposals from anyone affected should be addressed to Environment & Resources, Trent bridge House, Fox Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham NG2 68J (phone 08449 808080)
Interactive speed signal
The promised interactive speed sign has now been installed in Costock.
Its operation is a little haphazard as it appears not to react to all traffic and occasionally only lights up after traffic has passed it.
It is situated some way beyond the initial 30 mph sign on the approach from East leake and also beyond the School crossing sign.
Costock residents wishing to comment on its performance or position should do so directly to the County Council
The following pictures show its position and operation.

Womens Institute The
Costock women's institute meet on the second tuesday in the month at the village
hall in Costock at 7.30pm. We have a membership of around 22 ladies. The
evening consists of either a demonstration or a speaker talking about a wide variety
of subjects, followed by a sociable half hour. If you are new to the village it
is one way of getting to know people. One month in the year we arrange
an outing usually to include husbands or partners. Anyone who would like
to join our organisation or to know more about what the W.I. is all about, should
just come along to a meeting where you will be made very welcome. Our
institute was founded in 1926 and we recently celebrated 80 years.
